Enhanced formulation keeps leafrollers under control
PROCLAIM® Opti insecticide, a water dispersible granule (WDG) formulation, has found favour with spray contractors and growers seeking an effective option for the control of Leafroller species in kiwifruit and avocado crops.
Andrew McIntosh, Bay of Plenty Territory Sales Manager for Syngenta, says, “Since we launched PROCLAIM® Opti, I’ve had plenty of feedback from growers and spray contractors who have been impressed with how easily it dissolves in the spray tank compared to the old formulation. They’ve also commented about less dust when measuring and adding it to the tank.”
PROCLAIM® Opti is an enhanced formulation of emamectin. Formulated using PEPITE granule technology, it produces less dust than conventional granules for ease of handling, solubility and user safety when using the product.
The active ingredient emamectin is quickly absorbed into the plant tissue via translaminar action, moving from the upper to lower leaf surface, or vice versa. The rapid movement into the plant tissue ensures excellent efficacy and residual activity but also limits the impact on key beneficial species, making it ideal to use in integrated pest management (IPM) programmes.
Andrew highlights other key points about PROCLAIM® Opti:
- Apply at a rate of 2 g per 100 L for kiwifruit and 4 g per 100 L for avocados, as a dilute spray with a per hectare application rate equivalent to 40 grams.
- Always add a non-ionic wetting agent at label rates on all crops.
- Approved in the Zespri Crop Protection Standard with a 42-day pre-harvest interval and growers can make later applications if monitoring shows Leafroller numbers are high.
- A short 3-day pre-harvest interval when applied to avocados.
- Also registered for the control of Leafrollers in grapes and Leafrollers and Codling moth in pipfruit.
- Available in 400 g packs.
