Superior sulphur solution for vineyard protection
THIOVIT® Jet is a high quality, premium sulphur formulation from Syngenta that is an excellent mixing partner with single site fungicides in Powdery mildew crop protection programmes. It is suitable for both conventional and organic vineyard management.
THIOVIT® Jet is a BioGro certified fungicide that contains 800 g/kg sulphur to provide pre-infection activity on Powdery mildew through both contact and vapour activity, in conditions above 18ºC. This dual action ensures class-leading efficacy, with no resistance ever recorded.
"THIOVIT® Jet's distinction lies in its specialised micronisation formulation process," explains Paul Hassan, Technical Services Lead at Syngenta New Zealand. "The sulphur micro-granules are size optimised to approximately 4 microns, achieving the perfect balance of contact action, fumigant activity and crop safety on grape vines."
Coarse micronised formulations often contain particles exceeding 8 microns, which Hassan notes is problematic: "Oversized particles result in diminished contact action, slower vapour activity and result in poor leaf adhesion."
Conversely, smaller micronised variants may contain up to 15% undersized particles. "Sub-1-micron particles can penetrate leaf stomata, potentially causing phytotoxicity. Formulations with these smaller particles also sublimate more rapidly, reducing the product's residual activity," Hassan adds.
Other benefits of the superior formulation of THIOVIT® Jet are:
- Convenient measurement (1 kg = 1 L) using a standard measuring jug
- Very easy to mix in water than other sulphur formulations, with less dust.
- Instant dispersion in water and can be re-dispersed if spraying is interrupted for any reason.
Best use advice:
- Begin to apply THIOVIT® Jet when shoots are 5 cm long (E-L 7-8) and apply at 10 to 14 day intervals
- Ensure the sprayer is set up to achieve thorough canopy coverage and complete coverage of all green plant surfaces to maximise the contact activity of THIOVIT® Jet.
- Apply 150 to 300 g of THIOVIT® Jet per 100 litres of water as a dilute spray to run off, and match water volume to canopy size as the season progresses.
- Using the higher rate of THIOVIT® Jet provides superior control of Powdery mildew.
- To determine the THIOVIT® Jet rate per hectare, use the industry accepted calculator.
- The use of water sensitive papers is recommended to check and optimise spray coverage.
