Raymond Bowan

Fallgate Farm - GERALDINE NZ

CATEGORY: PEOPLE & COMMUNITY

The Bowan family has been involved in growing potatoes in New Zealand, one way or another, for over 40 years. Raymond started out as a young lad hand picking potatoes for a neighbour until he eventually managed to get some land of his own.

When the local potato crisping plant was shut down and shifted to the North Island by one of the corporate processors, Raymond saw the opportunity to purchase the site and own his own factory and with some great staff, he has been able to put to use the knowledge gained over the years to turn well grown potatoes into great tasting chips and is proud to say that Heartland Potato Chips is 100% NZ owned and operated.

Raymond has been nominated in the People and Community category as the Bowan's are a great example of a successful paddock to plate business whilst also supporting their community in both employment on the farm and at the factory.

The Bowan’s also have successfully incorporated family succession in both their son James managing the family farm and daughter Charlotte managing Heartland Potato Chips.

They also have a willingness and generosity to support community events via sponsorship and assistance.

The family brand, Heartland Potato Chips, is now a household name all over New Zealand. As quoted by Raymond "a range that I am proud to put my name on."
